Sorry about the absence the past week. I've had a sick son and was uber busy. Here's the low down on This Week In Selby: 28 April.

Wednesday
Zumba - 6:30pm at the community center; $10 drop-in fee
Dennis Day - 7:00pm; Dennis will be at the community center from 7:00 - 9:00pm for all your parking sticker, key fob and community center reservation needs

Friday
We have rescheduled 1st Friday Happy Hour for May. 1st Friday Happy Hour will now be held on the second friday, 9 May.

FYI
* We are currently under all kinds of crazy flood watches. All of them expire by noon on Thursday. We have a huge system making it's way across the U.S. It's left some really bad destruction in it's wake, but we shouldn't see any of that. I have heard that there may be some strong weather on Wednesday, but nothing to really worry about.

* This is the last week for the book fair at Central Elementary. If you are sending money in with your students, then please don't forget the 6% sales tax and checks can be made payable to: Central Elementary School or CES.

* Screens Free Week is 5-11 May. Stay tuned for some tips to keep those kids busy when those screens go off.

Selby Easter - Saturday, 19 April

Good Morning Selby,
Just a small little reminder of our Selby Easter this Saturday at the Community Center. It begins at 11:00am and will have activities, games and an egg hunt at the end. There are still plenty opportunities for volunteers for the event! Please sign up!

* AACPS Spring Break is next week. Remember that schools will open on Monday, 21 April 2014 to make up for a snow day.

* Welcome to all of our new Goodreads members! I see the conversations have already started. If you are unfamiliar with Goodreads, it is a social network for readers. It's a great place to get together with other folks to discuss books and find new books. Online book clubs are starting soon and are great ways to join in community conversation during a time that is right for you!

* The Grace Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Davidsonville will be sponsoring an Easter Sunrise Church Service at 6:00am on Easter Sunday, 20 April. They will meet on the beach (weather permitting) for a time singing, prayer and reflection and then meet in the community center for breakfast. All are welcome. Southern District Police Open House

I received this from Sgt Gregory Speed of the South County police station on Stepney's Lane.

Good Afternoon Southern District Community Groups:

On Saturday April 26th from 10am- 1pm we will be hosting an Open House at the Southern District Police Station, 35 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater.  We're looking for this event to serve as an excellent opportunity for us to continue to build a working relationship between the police department and the communities & businesses that we serve. 

District Commander Captain Michelle Simpson, Administrative Lieutenant Micheal Brothers, Tactical Patrol & Tactical Narcotics Sergeant Keith Clark, and District Detective Sergeant Greg Speed will be on hand, along with numerous other officers and units from the department, to answer your questions and help you learn more about the Anne Arundel County Police Department.   

Please spread the word to your community members and we hope that you will be able to stop. 

If you have any questions, or if there is something specific you hope to learn about, please let me know.

School News

AACPS has decided to open schools on Monday, 21 April to make up for a snow day. The state has accepted the county's 3-day waiver. The last day of school for AACPS will be on 18 June 2014.
