I hope the kiddos are enjoying their last week of summer freedom! Remember - Grades K-5 (I believe Kindergarten is a staggered entrance), 6th and 9th grades are starting school on Monday, 24 August and everyone goes back on Tuesday, 25 August. The Central Elementary Sneak-a-Peek is on Thursday, 20 August from 3:00 to 4:00. Here is our week in Selby!

Howl-At-The-Moon Celebration

We are desperately in need of volunteers for the Howl-At-The-Moon celebration on 29 August. The sign-up is empty except for one person to whom I am very grateful. Selby Elections
Selby Elections will be held on 20 September. 3 volunteers are needed for the election committee. The election committee is responsible for receiving nominations and watching over the voting. Howl-At-The-Moon Get Together
Our last Selby bash of the summer will be the How-At-The-Moon Get Together at the community center on Saturday, 29 August 2015 from 5pm to 11pm. We need everyone's help!! We're looking for food, game and decor donations!! The sign ups are below!

Selby Beach Security
Calling all volunteers!! We are looking for a few folks to help sit on the beach gate and check parking stickers. Word has gotten out that Selby Beach is a public beach and folks from all over are innocently hopping over to relax. It has now become a problem and we need to step up security, but we need some people-power!! We have put together a sign up to sit on the gate in 2-hour shifts. It's not a lot of time, but would make a huge difference to our community. Here are the details:
Dates: 14 August through 13 September
Fridays - 6pm to 8pm
Saturdays and Sundays - 11am to 7pm

Update Week of 3 August
Good morning Selby,
It's been a while since I've put out an update. The summer is going by REALLY quick! I've altered the final summer activity plans yet again. I apologize. I'm trying to get over a cold and I'm just exhausted. We'll have 2 final activities this summer ~ one this Wednesday and one next Wednesday. We are still meeting for our summer reading club every Monday to turn in times.
MONDAY
* Selby Summer Reading - 5:00pm to 6:00pm
This Monday will be an extended time since we are helping Edgewater Books collect school supplies to help our local schools (meaning the South River cluster schools). You can still turn in your hours and grab a new sheet, but we will also have a table set up for folks to drop off supplies.
TUESDAY
* SCA Board Meeting - 7:00pm
WEDNESDAY
* Selby Tots - (9:30am - 11:00am)
* Airplanes! Summer Activity - 2:00pm - 3:00pm
* Key cards, parking stickers and boat keys - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
* Community center reservations - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
THURSDAY
* Paddle boarding - 6:30pm
FRIDAY
*1st Friday Happy Hour - 7:00pm
Friday's happy hour will be at the beach. We need to soak up the nice weather while we can! The community center will not be open so don't forget to bring your key fobs!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
** Tonight at the Selby community center during the Selby summer reading program, we will be collecting for the Edgewater Books school supply drive for needy students. Let's really show them what Selby can do and don't forget they gave us our Little Library that we love so much. Let's show our support! This is our regular summer reading night, so you will be able to turn in your hours and pick up another sheet. I will also have new books out to look through as well as information on the Selby Youth Book Club that will start in September. Target has some really great sales on school supplies AND you can text "School to Target" to the number 827438 and you'll be sent a link for a $5 coupon (expires 8/8) when you spend $25 in school supplies. The kids need our help! The schools REALLY appreciate these supplies. It really isn't too much money and who doesn't love school supply shopping!!!
** Howl-At-The-Moon - The Selby end-of-summer bash is Saturday, 29 August from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. We'll be celebrating the end of summer under the light of the full moon! A pig roast is already being arranged, but we need some culinary help from our Selby chef masters!! Here's the sign up for the potluck:

We are also in need of decoration and games/entertainment in the form of torches or cornhole or horseshoes and things of that nature. You may bring them by during set up (4:30) and grab them on your way out. We really appreciate the loan! Here's the sign up for decor and games:

** Calling all those that have been interested in the Neighborhood Watch Program! Here is your first call of duty. We are starting sign ups for teams to sit on the gate at the beach. The job is simple: grab some chairs or a tent or the back of a truck or pick-up and stop all those who attempt to enter. Only folks with a parking sticker may have entrance to the beach. Walkers must be a resident of Selby. Check out the sign up and see if there is a good time for you!!
