Selby New Year's Eve Celebration

Good Afternoon Selby,
Are you ready to say hello to 2015?! Hop down to the community center and ring in the new year with your friendly neighbors! We'll have Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve on the projection screen and a champagne toast at midnight. Your $10 at the door will enter you in door prizes throughout the evening so keep that ticket stub! This is an adult function, but there will be a teen onsite in case babysitting services are needed in the back room. There will be no activities planned so please bring entertainment if children are to attend for a while. Don't forget the tip too!

The Selby New Year's Eve celebrations begins at 9:00pm and ends at 12:30am. Bring your own beverages and please sign up to bring munchies! If you are on Facebook, then please RSVP through Facebook. If you are not on Facebook, then please RSVP to SelbyBay@gmail.com. This is will give us an estimated count for champagne. Thanks!

Happy New Year!!

Selby Update - 22 December 2014

Good Evening Selby,
Welcome to the last few days before Christmas! I hope everyone is ready for Santa's visit! I am certainly not, but I'm getting there. Here are a few notes for the week.
Selby Holiday Lights 2014
I would first like to thank Mary Beth Hershelman, Maria Witles and Alexa D'Angelo for stepping up and volunteering to judge our nominated Selby houses. This year we decided to have 2 categories to award 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I really think that this helped to add a few newbies into the contest. The two categories were: Total Griswold and Classic Christmas. We had a total of 8 nominations which was up from last year! Our winners were:
Total Griswold
1st - 3680 8th Ave
2nd - 3657 8th Ave
3rd - 3621 7th Ave
Classic Christmas
1st - 801 Selby Blvd
2nd - 833 Selby Heights
3rd - 817 Selby Heights
Our two other nominees were: 877 Holly Dr and 850 Bayview Dr. Take some time and drive by and admire their workmanship!! To all the winners: please email me at SelbyBay@gmail.com when is the best time to stop by with your award. Thanks!
Holiday Trash Collection
Due to the Christmas holiday, our trash pickup which is regularly scheduled for Friday, will now be picked up on Saturday.
AACPS will be closed Wednesday, 24 December 2014 and will reopen again on Monday, 5 January 2015.
Selby New Year's Eve
We will be having a Selby New Year's Eve party. We're all busy with the holidays, but the details so far are: 31 December, Community Center, $10 per adult 21 years or older, champagne toast at midnight. I'll have more after Christmas. In the meantime, check out the sign-up sheet and sign up for a donation!!
NORAD Santa
Don't forget to check out NORAD Santa on Christmas Eve!! NORAD tracks Santa all over the world as he delivers his goodies. Also, don't forget reindeer food as well!! My family usually mixes oats, birdseed and colored sugar. Please refrain from using glitter. Glitter is actually little pieces of metal and can harm birds if they eat it. This time of the year, the birds will eat anything!
Community Meeting
With all the recent talk about crime, please bring your concerns to the community meeting on Tuesday, 6 January at the community center at 7pm. The one thing that really stuck out to me as I was looking at holiday lights back in Selby Heights is that it is DARK!!! Very dark and with a lot of woods around. I really think one good deterrent to crime is to leave your porch lights on at night. Street lights are really needed back there! We'll have a rep from Beverly Beach's neighborhood watch program there at the meeting to talk with everyone about how the peninsula communities can help each other.
Well, I think that's about it for now. Hope everyone enjoys their holiday!!!
Thanks!
Tracie

Neighborhood Crime New for 15 December 2014

I apologize for not getting this out sooner. Just like everyone else, I'm trying to get holiday stuff organized for my own family. Unfortunately, while everyone is blissfully happy during the holiday season, there are those who take advantage of those around them. We did talk about this at the last community meeting. It was stressed very clearly...LOCK EVERYTHING. The middle-of-the-night automobile "break-ins" are more like "open-ups". Keep an eye on your neighbors. You don't have to stalk them, but notice their comings and goings. If things don't look right to you, then call the police. If you are having packages delivered to your home, then asked a neighbor who is home to look out for them or have them delivered to your work. Sometimes we make it far too easy for thieves. Once their opportunities dry up, they will leave. As far as key fobs, make sure they beep. Physically check your doors. I go outside and check my car doors every night. It's mostly OCD, but it's the good kind of OCD I guess. Below is the email Bob sent out earlier. This is about a home burglary. I don't know the details, but we can all help each other by looking out for each other.
*************************************************************************************
Morning Selby, Re: Home Break-ins
Please read the email I received this morning from one of our fellow Residents in Selby.
We all need to ‘watch out’ for each other and if we observe a suspicious activity – CALL THE POLICE. They won’t scold you if it’s a False Alarm - Really!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Maybe you can pass this along to the Selby gang. I know you do that from time to time.
My neighbor asked me to pass this along to you.
There was a Home Burglary this past Wednesday/Thursday on 10th Ave.
The haul was significant, computer, monitor, jewelry, cash, coins, etc. Police were contacted and a report was filed.
This was a pretty brazen break-in, because it appears they were in the house for a while.
The amount of stolen property indicates multiple trips in and out of the house or more than one person. To be clear, nobody was home during the break-in.
With all the recent activity in the community, I thought sharing this along with another reminder to keep our homes, cars, garage doors, sheds, etc. locked up tight, along with security lighting and a watchful eye is in order.
This is a great place to live, but we have more than our fair share of bad guys!
I hope sharing this reminds everyone to be careful.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanks for reading and don’t forget to ‘click’ those Key Fobs before you go to sleep tonight and every night.
Regards,
Bob

Halloween Update

Halloween Update!

For those who will be asking, trick-or-treating generally starts when the sun goes down. Please only go to the houses that have lights on. Remember "please" and "thank you" and be mindful of neighbors' lawns. Use walkways if possible. Remember that trick-or-treating is a fun activity and those who are giving out candy are doing so out of the goodness of their hearts. Show them how much they are appreciated and make it a fun evening! If you are driving through the streets of Selby, please remember that this is a night when children are all over the neighborhood. SLOW DOWN YOUR SPEEDS!!! Parents, please keep an eye out on ALL of our Selby kids and try to keep them out of the streets so that cars may pass safely. If we both work together, then we'll all have a great night. Unfortunately, it's supposed to be chilly on Halloween night, but dry. Don't forget the hay rides at the clubhouse starting around 7:30ish and the bonfire as well.

Considering we have had a rash of break-ins, please take some time before retiring for the evening to make sure cars, sheds and garages are locked up.

Time Change
This weekend (Sunday) Daylight Savings Time ends. Make sure you set your clocks back one hour on Saturday evening. Also, grab some batteries and change the ones in your smoke detector. It's better to be safe than sorry!!

Happy Halloween Selby!!

Selby Broadcast Message

Morning Selby,

Last night there were a couple burglaries in my area of Selby, including my garage.

The Police were apparently alerted by one of my neighbors, who ‘spotted’ the thieves walking down the road with some of my power tools.
They were using the dirt path on the corner of 2nd and Winding Rd as their ‘Stash Area’ to come back later to load them onto a truck.
The Police Dogs were able to locate this area very quickly and found all my property and a few other valuable tools from other trucks.

I’m not certain if they apprehended the individuals, but the Police Cruisers, Helicopter and two K9 teams were ‘all over’ this area.
However, with all the wooded areas we have in Selby and the fact that these ‘guys’ were on foot and after dark – It was difficult to find them.

REMINDER
Take out those Key Fobs and lock your cars and trucks when you head off to bed.
These ‘guys’ have not been known to ‘break into’ a vehicle, but if they’re able to open any of the doors they will take anything of value.
These individuals are brazen and will not hesitate to steal, sell and get money from your valuables for their drug habit.
If your vehicle has never been ‘hit’ – consider yourself fortunate.

Regards,
  Bob

Clubhouse Reservations - 7:45pm
Parking Stickers and Key Fobs - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Around 7:30pm we'll have our annual hay rides through the neighborhood and bonfire down at the beach. Stop through while you're trick-or-treating! There will be no other activities at the clubhouse and the building will be locked. Please be safe while trick-or-treating. PLEASE SLOW DOWN ON NEIGHBORHOOD ROADS!!!  I can not stress this enough! If you are out and about and of legal drinking age, then please designate a driver and be good to them. Buy them dinner and nonalcoholic drinks!!

Saturday, 1 November 2014
8:00am - 12:00pm
There will be a community yard sale at the community center. I'm not sure if there is space available, but please email SOTBReservations for more information.

Dogs on the Beach
There have been reports of finding dog droppings in the sand on the beach and around the beach common areas. PLEASE clean up after your pet. Dog droppings pollute our Bay and can just be impossible to get out of kids' shoes. Also, make sure your dog has a collar with up-to-date owner information. We've been finding a lot of fuzzy friends wandering the neighborhood with no collars and no way of finding their homes!

Boo-At-The-Beach - TONIGHT!

Good Saturday Morning Selby!
Tonight is our annual Boo-At-The-Beach! Festivities begin at 6:oopm and go through 10:00pm at the community center. Our DJ tonight will look very familiar to our Central Elementary crew. A VERY special thank you goes out to those who have signed up on our Selby Sign Up Genius!!! This is a community event and when the whole community gets involved it's more fun! There are still many openings on the sign-up especially costume contest judges and activity attendants. We desperately need warm bodies to help the kids with their activities! Each activity is broken down into shifts so helpers aren't stranded at a station all night. This is a great opportunity for high schoolers who need those community service hours. If you are bringing down a pumpkin for the pumpkin carving contest, then please bring it down between 5:30pm and 6:00pm with a spooky name attached to it. We will use the name for folks to vote.

We will be collecting for the Selby food drive tonight. Bring down a non-perishable food item to donate. Please no glass or expired food. A bin will be placed by the door for donations. Pet food is also being collected to donate to the AACo SPCA's food bank which supplies pet food to low income families. This is a great program that keeps pets with the families they love and out of the shelters!

Finally, if you're looking for some last minute ideas about what to donate for the Boo-At-The-Beach, then take a look at our Selby Pinterest for some ideas. A Halloween board has just been added!!

SELBY BROADCAST

Happy Sunday afternoon Selby!

There’s a lot going on in Selby. Grab a beverage and a comfy chair and read on!

Selby-For-The-Hungry

2 October - 15 November
We will be holding our 3rd annual Selby-For-The-Hungry Food Drive from 2 October through 15 November. Please deposit non-perishable food items in the donation bin across from the community center bathrooms. Canned fruit or veggies, tuna, macaroni and cheese, instant mashed potatoes, ramen noodles, cake mix, juices - are a few good ideas. Please no glass containers. Our record was 45lbs in 2012. Let’s see if we can break it!! We are also collecting clean, pink, Yoplait yogurt lids for the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Boo-At-The-Beach

Saturday, 25 October   6pm-10pm
We will be having a Halloween party this year in Selby that does not fall on Halloween night to accommodate all of our helpful folks who enjoy their families and friends on Halloween. The annual Boo-At-The-Beach will be on Saturday, 25 October at the community center from 6pm to 10pm. There will be activities and contests to enjoy as well as a DJ. One of our contests is a pumpkin carving contest. Please carve pumpkins at home, tag with a non-family related name and bring them to the clubhouse before the party starts. We will use the name for voting purposes. Please take pumpkins with you when you leave. In order to make all of this happen, we need some HELP! Please check out SignUpGenius and sign up for food donations and volunteer opportunities.

We need YOU!!

Halloween

Friday, 31 October
What would Halloween night in Selby be like without our hayrides and bonfire!?! The hayride will still be rolling through the hood on Halloween night. Rides will begin about 7:30ish. The bonfire will be lit after dark. There will be no activities at the community center on Halloween night.

Selby Community Yard Sale

Saturday, 1 November    8am - Noon
We’re cleaning out the clubhouse!! If you have personal property at the Community Center, please retrieve it no later than Wednesday, 15 October. After that date, all remaining property will be donated to the yard sale. Space including a table is available for $15 – so collected your gently used items and bring them down on the 1st. We have 13 tables that will be available on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to reserve a table or have any questions, please email SOTBReservations@gmail.com.  Set up will start 7:30am on 1 November.  All unsold items must be removed by the owner no later than 1pm.

Small Business Bazaar

Sunday, 16 November  10am - 4pm
There will be a small business bazaar at the community center that will showcase all the wonderful business within the Selby community. Crafters are welcome as well. Table rentals are $20 each and there are 12 tables available. We would also like to have a 50/50 silent basket auction with our small business as well as the rest of the Selby community. What do you mean by “basket”? Simple! Get together a team or you could do it by yourself. Decide on a theme. Purchase items or, if you own your own business, donate some of your product and put together an attractive basket! We’ll auction the baskets off at the small business bazaar and split the profit with the team/small business! This is a great way of advertising your business and can be really fun if you compete with other neighbors to see who can auction their basket off for more!

If you would like to register for a table for your small business, then you can register in person on: 15 Oct (7pm-9pm), 17 Oct (5pm-7pm), 20 Oct (6pm-7pm) and 3 Nov (6pm-7pm). Tables will be available on a first come, first serve basis and registration will be closed when the last table is rented. If you would like to register to make a basket, then please email SelbyBay@gmail.com with the names on your team or business name, products that will be included in your basket and an email address.

Thanks Selby!!

Selby Boo-At-The-Beach

Good evening Selby,
This year for Halloween, we'd like to try and do something a little different. Instead of having Halloween festivities on the night of Halloween, we're going to have a Halloween party on 25 October. We decided that this would be better since many of our volunteers would like to trick-or-treat with their families or hand out candy to neighborhood children on Halloween night. We'll still have our hayride and bonfire on Halloween night though. A Selby Halloween wouldn't be complete without them! Usually the hayride starts around 7:30-8:00pm.
The Selby Boo-At-The-Beach will be held on 25 October at the community center from 6:00pm until 10:00pm. We will have activities and contests for the kids throughout the evening. One of our contests will be a pumpkin carving contest. We're asking for those who would like to enter a pumpkin, to carve their Jack o'Lanterns at home, give it a name (a non-family name on a card) and bring it down to the community center before the party starts. Voters will use the anonymous name to cast their vote.
The success of the Selby-Boo-At-The-Beach relies on you! We need volunteers! We need volunteers to donate snacks. We need volunteers to man the games. This would be great for teens looking for some community service hours. We need volunteers to donate toilet paper. This is for a few of the games. Attached is the link for the SignUpGenius. Please take a look and see how you can help out.

Thanks!!

We will be having a pumpkin carving contest. Pumpkins need to be carved at home and then brought to the community center. We will also have games, contests and a DJ. More details coming soon. Until then...SIGN UP TO HELP!!!

Selby Update - LONG!!

Good Afternoon Selby!! (In Robin Williams voice...I will so miss that guy)
This is a big, big update with lots of things to note so please take the time to sit down and read through the post. I would greatly appreciate it. Also, there are several links and I don't know if Facebook will freak out with this so I guess we'll just see what happens.

SCHOOLS
There's been a lot of concern about how to get information out of the schools. There are ways of doing it, but they keep it under lock and key. I'm not sure why. I'm hoping this information helps everyone. FYI - I try to keep all the schools' newsletter current on the front page of the Selby website. They are posted right now except for the high school who doesn't have a newsletter out yet.

Central Elementary
Twitter: www.twitter.com/CentralESaacps
Website: www.aacps.org/aacps/centrales
Eblast: Send email info to: Secretary@mycentralpta.org
Back-To-School Night: 9 September, 6:30pm

Central Middle
Twitter: www.twitter.com/CentralMidAACPS
Website: www.aacps.org/aacps/centralms
Email: I have heard that they have an email newsletter, but I have no information on it
Back-To-School Night: 11 September, 6:30 (club info beginning at 5:30)

South River
Twitter: www.twitter.com/SRSeahawksaacps
Website: www.southriverhigh.org
South River Tracker: send email to Kathy Kraus at southriverptso@hotmail.com

The schools have just signed up for Twitter and it's a pretty good idea. I don't know how much info they'll put on it, but you can create a free Twitter account specifically for schools and of course, Selby. ;) The AACPS calendar will be posted on the Selby calendar.

September Happy Hour
The community center will be hosting a private party this Friday SO we're gonna ROCK THE BEACH. It's hotter than...(insert analogy here)...and I'm sure the kiddos will love to swim while the old-er folks lounge and watch them get tired. Hop on down with a cooler and meet and greet some neighbors!!

Yoga
You have asked for it and it will happen...Yoga In Selby! Thank you to Chris Edmonds for spearheading this opportunity for us all to find our Zen. Considering the holidays are crazy for just about everyone, we're gonna start Yoga in January 2015 because I KNOW it will be on everyone's New Year's Resolutions! More information will be coming out in November as to what day and how much and how long. Keep an eye out!

Selby Elections
It's that magical time of year when we get to elect our new SCA Board for 2014-15!! I linked a copy of the Election issue of the Bay Winds which has all the info in it a couple weeks ago. If you would like to nominate someone for a position (all positions and descriptions are in the newsletter), then please get going!! Nominations will be accepted until 7 September. Please email your nominations to one of the three:

goodepilgrim@yahoo.com
loisacarlson@gmail.com
philp4u@verizon.net

The general election meeting will begin at 2:00pm and voting will follow. We'll turn on the football game and nibble some snacks. Please bring your own beverages. If you would like to donate some snacks (I know there some folks who love to cook!), then you may sign up on the Sign-Up Genius at:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040b44aaa92aa46-2014

Please make sure you note what you would like to bring so we don't end up with duplicates. Results of the voting will be read after voting ends at 6:00pm. (voting ends at 6pm...results will be read when they tally them...give our election committee a little bit of time...sheesh!)

Selby Blog
If you have not yet done so, then feel free to sign up for a subscription to the Selby blog. Available blog posts are delivered to your email inbox only one time a day from the previous day's posts. It's a very convenient way to keep up with everything Selby and all you have to do is check your email!

Tutoring
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in tutoring sessions at the community center. I would love to match older kids (especially those needing community service hours) with younger kids looking for some help (especially in the middle school). Let me know if that's an interest to anyone.

Selby Tots
Selby Tots will be going back to their regular schedule. They will now meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 10:00am to 12:00pm. This is a great way for both parents and kids to meet!

Selby Band
The Selby Band is taking a hiatus for a while. I do believe that they will reunite and will let us know when that happens.

I think that's about it. I told you this was going to be long! I hope a lot of this information is useful to you. If you have any questions or comments about any of the above, then please email SelbyBay@gmail.com.

Have a great Selby day!!

- Tracie

Zumba - 6:30pm
Reservations, key fobs, parking stickers - 7:00pm
Dumpsters arrive at beach

PLEASE do not put large items in the dumpster like lawn mowers and NO - asbestos, batteries, hazardous waste, paints, oil, liquids, chemicals, pesticides, highly flammable material or propane tanks.
* The Selby band will be on hiatus for the rest of the year. There may a session here or there, but will be announced if scheduled.
* The Selby SCA Board elections are coming up 21 September. Plans are still being made as well as getting information out to the whole community about position descriptions. Remember...voting gives you a right to b...., well you know what I mean. Stay tuned for information on that.

Selby Update for the week of 7 July 2014

Good Morning Selby! Just a few things of note.

First, thank you to everyone who came out to the 4th of July parade on Friday morning. The parade route was much smaller, but seemed to work a lot better. Thank you to the folks who came down to watch and came out of their homes to watch. Parades are SO much better when there are spectators. I'll post some pics sometime today. I haven't downloaded my camera yet. A BIG thank you to Patricia Kelly Stecklein and Bill Harding for all their work in the concessions. It was a LONG day! Thank you to Mica Harding for covering the evening shift. Concessions will be open again. Please stay tuned for that information.

Band Practice and Zumba have been put on hold for July. I believe there will be a Band session in August. I do have a date, but it's not on hand at the moment.

Art Classes! We have the pleasure of an Annapolis High PVA Junior instructing an art class for grades 3-5 on 9 July (that's Wednesday!) and an art class for grades 6-7 on 16 July from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the community center. All kids in that age group are encouraged to attend.

The Strategic Gaming Club will meet THIS MORNING at 10:30am. This is a really great club that gets kids thinking. It's fun, educational and social!! Get those kids down there!!!

Our Selby Tots group are now meeting every Wednesday morning at 9:30 throughout the summer. This is a great opportunity for Moms to meet AND for kids to meet!

I am currently working on a clubs page for the website and hope to have it up today. This will be a good go-to place to find information about clubs and classes at the community center and remember, if you'd like to lead a class or club, then please email me at SelbyBay@gmail.com. One day things are great! A project or a presentation...all good.

Thanks and have a great week!!!

4th Of July - Hurricane Arthur

Hey Selby...well, I hear we have a hurricane on the east coast. Hurricane Arthur has strengthened to a category 2 storm. Chesapeake Beach has already postponed their festivities until the 5th. I'm not going to do anything right now and will continue to watch the storm to see if it turns...right. If anything changes, then I will post to all available communication. Our Selby blog does one time emails every morning if anyone is interested. Until then - we will still decorate the clubhouse this afternoon around 4 if anyone would like to help/donate decorations. Thanks Selby!

Weather Advisory - 2 July 2014

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Wednesday, 2 July 2014. This means that the heat index (how it actually feels outside) is expected to hit 105 degrees. The combination of high temperatures and a high heat index will increase the risk of heat related illnesses. If you have to be outside, then wear light colored, loose fitted clothing and drink plenty of water. Please remember that alcohol, "power" drinks and soda are all dehydrating. Water is your best option. Take regular cooling breaks throughout the day. Keep pets out of direct sunlight and replenish cold water often. Ice water is not dangerous to pets. Check on elderly friends and neighbors. Recognize signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Cooling centers are open in Anne Arundel County. Click here for county link.

Signs of Heat Exhaustion
  • Heavy Sweating
  • Fatigue
  • Pale, clammy skin
  • Thirst
  • Rapid Heartbeat
  • Dizziness, fainting
Signs of Heat Stroke
  • Throbbing headache
  • Dizziness and lightheadedness
  • Lack of sweating
  • Red, hot and dry skin
  • Muscle weakness and cramps
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid shallow berating

Selby Update - Independence Week

Good Morning Selby!!
There's a lot of exciting things going on in Selby! There are some things that I don't have complete details on, but will be putting quite a few postings out to keep everyone up to date. So keep checking!!

First and foremost - There will be no Zumba or band practice for the month of July. They will pick back up in August so watch those holiday BBQs!!

4th of July
We will be continuing our Selby parade tradition this year! We have modified our parade route to a short loop. I will post a map. If you would like to join in the parade, then meet at the beach by 9:30. We will walk as a group to the beginning of the parade route and start the parade at 10am. If you would like to watch the parade, then hop down to the beach at 10am. We will also be drawing names for Selby King and Queen! Our King and Queen will lead the parade! If you would like your child's name thrown in the hat, then email their names to SelbyBay@gmail.com. There are no age requirements, but please at least under 18.

We will open the community center for concessions on the 4th from 11:00am to 5:00pm. We are very pleased to announce that concessions will also be open various days throughout the week as well! I'd like to thank Patricia Kelly Stecklein for getting the ball rolling on that one! I will be posting items and prices later today/early tomorrow.

New Club - Strategic Gaming Club
Did you ever play Risk when you were younger? I sure did! Risk is a good example of a strategy game. Strategy games get those brains working and promotes forward thinking much like chess. The best part - NO COMPUTERS INVOLVED! Selby resident, Tim Smith has kindly volunteered to lead a strategy gaming club at the community center. Club dates will be 22 July, 5 August and 19 August beginning at 10:30am until 5:00pm. This is a new club so if there are any changes, then I'll be sure to let everyone know. I have a cool looking flyer too that I'll post.

Business Ads
We have quite a few people posting businesses on Facebook and honestly, this really isn't the place for it. To keep your ad current, you have to post constantly which can get a bit frustrating for folks looking for community info. If you are a SELBY RESIDENT, then you may email your business info to be put on a Selby business page on the Selby website. If you are not a Selby resident and would like to advertise your business on the Selby website, then we can do that for a small fee. Please email SelbyBay@gmail.com for more information.

I'm going to stop here for now since that is a lot of information!! There will be more postings as the week goes on. Duplicate postings will be added to the website as well as the blog.

Thanks Selby!!!

Broadcast: 16 May 2014

Morning Selby,

Two totally unrelated topics for your attention:           1. Public Safety         2. Blue Angels

Public Safety
Please read the email below regarding criminal activities in our Community.
Reminder that our Police Officers cannot be everywhere, every day.  They depend on ‘Good People’ like all of us to help them help us.
So when you see something that doesn’t ‘look just right’ – don’t just ‘write it off’ – call the Police.
I have been told many times that they don’t mind getting these calls – They want to know!

A major concern is the area over by Shady Drive.
We have had two documented incidents in the last month of people loitering and parking on the street near the woods to either squat in a tent or to shoot Heroin.
I'm sure there have been other incidents like this in the past but it has been more recent and is becoming a serious concern for all the neighbors on Shady Drive and Dale Street.
Because we are a dead end street and it's very much wooded we have become a target for people doing illegal things in attempt at being unnoticed.

What they don't know is that we are a close knit community and pay very close attention to nonresidence on our streets.
We were wondering if you could put out a quick Email reminder for all people in our areas to be on alert for unfamiliar cars and people posing as squatters or having a broken down car.

People should not approach strangers but record observations and tag numbers for the police.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Blue Angels   (thanks to Heather Hinkel)
