Selby Update - 22 December 2014

Good Evening Selby,
Welcome to the last few days before Christmas! I hope everyone is ready for Santa's visit! I am certainly not, but I'm getting there. Here are a few notes for the week.
Selby Holiday Lights 2014
I would first like to thank Mary Beth Hershelman, Maria Witles and Alexa D'Angelo for stepping up and volunteering to judge our nominated Selby houses. This year we decided to have 2 categories to award 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I really think that this helped to add a few newbies into the contest. The two categories were: Total Griswold and Classic Christmas. We had a total of 8 nominations which was up from last year! Our winners were:
Total Griswold
1st - 3680 8th Ave
2nd - 3657 8th Ave
3rd - 3621 7th Ave
Classic Christmas
1st - 801 Selby Blvd
2nd - 833 Selby Heights
3rd - 817 Selby Heights
Our two other nominees were: 877 Holly Dr and 850 Bayview Dr. Take some time and drive by and admire their workmanship!! To all the winners: please email me at SelbyBay@gmail.com when is the best time to stop by with your award. Thanks!
Holiday Trash Collection
Due to the Christmas holiday, our trash pickup which is regularly scheduled for Friday, will now be picked up on Saturday.
AACPS will be closed Wednesday, 24 December 2014 and will reopen again on Monday, 5 January 2015.
Selby New Year's Eve
We will be having a Selby New Year's Eve party. We're all busy with the holidays, but the details so far are: 31 December, Community Center, $10 per adult 21 years or older, champagne toast at midnight. I'll have more after Christmas. In the meantime, check out the sign-up sheet and sign up for a donation!!
NORAD Santa
Don't forget to check out NORAD Santa on Christmas Eve!! NORAD tracks Santa all over the world as he delivers his goodies. Also, don't forget reindeer food as well!! My family usually mixes oats, birdseed and colored sugar. Please refrain from using glitter. Glitter is actually little pieces of metal and can harm birds if they eat it. This time of the year, the birds will eat anything!
Community Meeting
With all the recent talk about crime, please bring your concerns to the community meeting on Tuesday, 6 January at the community center at 7pm. The one thing that really stuck out to me as I was looking at holiday lights back in Selby Heights is that it is DARK!!! Very dark and with a lot of woods around. I really think one good deterrent to crime is to leave your porch lights on at night. Street lights are really needed back there! We'll have a rep from Beverly Beach's neighborhood watch program there at the meeting to talk with everyone about how the peninsula communities can help each other.
Well, I think that's about it for now. Hope everyone enjoys their holiday!!!
Thanks!
