ANNOUNCEMENTS
**Book Club**
Due to the lack of readers that showed up last Monday, I've decided to move the teen book club to the online Goodreads group - Selby Bay Readers. This way the book club can be accessible to anyone at anytime. To find the group, make a Goodreads account and go to "groups" and search Selby Bay Readers. Look under my ("Tracie") folder to find the teen reads. I will try to post every Monday. Our first book is The Boundless by Kenneth Oppel and there are plenty of copies at the public library.

Goodreads is also trying out Challenges! Our first group challenge begins 1 November and lasts throughout the month. Don't forget to sign up for the challenge!

If you would like to be a moderator on our Selby Goodreads group, then please email SelbyBay@gmail.com and we'll make you a folder to start your own book club!

**Thank You!**
Thank you to everyone who helped make Boo-At-The-Beach a success! Most notably - Kim Bareuther, Linda Bouchard, Mike Bouchard, Marc Galiber and Rachel Kunkel. A big thanks to everyone who donated munchies for the evening and to those who tipped our teens in the back with the kiddos. It was a great get-together.

**Halloween**
Halloween is Saturday. Please remember to turn on your porch light if you're giving out candy and turn it off if you are not participating.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

I can not stress this enough!! Children can be very unpredictable especially when they are not use to being outside at night and there are scary sounds and sights everywhere.

**Hayride and Bonfire**
We will be doing our annual hayride and bonfire. Hayrides will begin around 8:00pm in the beach parking lot.

**LOCK UP**
It's Halloween and it's a Saturday. Make sure your car, shed, garage...are locked up. A little prevention goes a long way!

**Selby-For-The-Hungry**
Our annual food drive is in full swing. You can donate non-perishable food items at any Selby event or club gathering. You can also put donations in the plastic bin outside the bathrooms by the book rack. We are also collecting pet food. They go hungry too! The SPCA is looking for kitten food, wet and dry cat and dog food (Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE,Science Diet, IAMS, Friskies), small animal food, and treats for dogs and cats. Last year we collected 23.5 lbs! Let's beat that this year!

**2-Hour Early Dismissal**
AACPS has a 2-hour early dismissal on Friday, 30 October.

That's about it for this week! Have a great week and see ya trick-or-treating on Saturday!!

**Jogging Club**
Central Elementary students may remember the Jogging Club. Well, we're bringing it to Selby! Joggers will run the horseshoe at the beach and collect feet tokens with each foot card they complete. We'll be running jogging club until it's too dark to meet.

**Boo-At-The-Beach**
Our Selby Halloween celebration will be this Saturday. This year we are having half for the kids and the 2nd half for the adults. DJ Marc will be joining us again this year. Two neighborhood teens will be available to watch kids in the back room if parents would like to stay for the adult half. Please, don't forget to tip the teens! Also, please have kids who are staying bring activities to keep them busy. There is a sign up for donations and it's a BYOB. Don't forget drinks for the kids too! Hay rides and bon fire will be on Halloween night.

**Teen Driver Safety Day**
Do you have a teen driver? There will be a Teen Driver Safety Day at South River High School on Friday, 23 Oct. from 8pm to 11pm. I'll post the flyer in a separate post. This is a great idea for new drivers!!

**Code Red Message**
The Selby community received a Code Red message today from AACO. The message is as follows:

This is a code red message from the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The police department is actively investigating a rash of thefts from vehicles and garage burglaries that occurred during the overnight hours of Saturday Oct. 17 into Sunday Oct. 18th. If you are a victim and have not reported the crime to police, please do so as soon as possible. If you have information related to these crimes please contact the Southern District Detective Unit at 410-222-1965 anytime after 7am on Monday morning. In addition we have increased police patrols in your community.

Thank you to everyone who posted with this information.

Changes to Weekly Updates

Good Evening Selby,
I had to change a few things around concerning Jogging Club and the middle school book club. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks!
Tracie

JOGGING CLUB
Due to schedule conflicts, Jogging Club will now be on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. We’ll be running Jogging Club until it’s too dark to be at the beach.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOOK CLUB
The first meeting will be on Monday, 19 October at 5:00pm. This will not be a full meeting, but just a moment to grab some information about the book club and reading schedule. The first discussion group will meet the following Monday (26 October) when everyone has had the chance to get the book and read to the first milestone. Looking at the availability of books at the public library, I decided to choose another book since there are plenty of copies. The book we will be reading is The Boundless by Kenneth Oppel. BTW, the books are middle school level, but anyone is welcome to join!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

* Community Center Clean Up  - Saturday, 17 October  (8:00am-2:00pm)
      Looking for volunteers to hop down to the clubhouse to do a little Fall cleaning - power washing the exterior and thoroughly cleaning the interior. Many hands make light work! Stay the whole time or just pitch in a little. Every little bit helps!

* Boo-At-The-Beach - Saturday, 24 October (6:00pm-10:00pm)
     Once again, we will have our Halloween celebration, Boo-At-The-Beach, on the Saturday before Halloween. We will be doing something a little differently this year...again (this is how we learn). From 6:00pm to 8:00pm we will be partying with the kiddos! We'll be doing our costume contest and various other games. At 8:00pm, we will be turning things over to the adults. The back room will be made available for the kids to hang out in if need be. There will be two teen babysitters to watch over things. Please bring a little cash to tip out the sitters for their time. Kids also must bring some activities to keep them occupied. Bags can be stashed in the back at the beginning of the evening. Please label with names. We have our favorite DJ, Marc "Fivecard" Galiber, who will be keeping our toes tapping and, of course, we have a SignUpGenius ready to be loaded up. There were a few people who had trouble with the signup and some who didn't want to sign up - feel free to email SelbyBay@gmail.com with your donation. A list of volunteers is always helpful to be able to thank everyone!

* Jogging Club - Tuesdays and Thursdays (4:00pm - 5:00pm)
      We're going to try to run a jogging club for kids at the beach every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00pm to 5:00pm until it gets too dark, at which time we'll break until Spring. The first meet will be on Tuesday, 20 October. Jogging Club will be exactly like the one they ran at Central Elementary and we'll be jogging around the horseshoe (paved path by the playground).

* Middle School Book Club - Mondays (5:00pm - 5:45pm)
      I'd like to lead a middle school book club every Monday afternoon. Books will come from elementary and middle school book lists. The first books will be chosen from the MD Black-Eyed Susan 2015-16 Nominees for grades 6-9. The first meeting will be Monday, 19 October where we will discuss how the club works and the reading schedule. Book discussions will include characters, setting, plot, conflict, recommendations and individual discussion questions. Books may also be used for the CMS Strive For 25. The book club will go throughout the school year. The first book will be The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier.

I think that's about it for now! Have a great week and check out that Sign Up Genius!
