Hello Selby,
I hope that everyone is enjoying a nice snow day! I don't know about you, but I wasn't expecting what we got. Looks like a good day to catch up everyone on what is going on in Selby.
Sunday, 1 March
We'll be celebrating Dr. Suess' birthday at the community center from 2pm to 4pm. We'll read a story, do a short craft, color a birthday greeting for Dr. Suess and eat some birthday cake. Birthday greetings that are filled out will be used to mail a special thank you!
Friday, 6 March
This month's 1st First Friday Happy Hour will be a St. Patrick's Day celebration. We're asking everyone to bring an Irish treat and, as always, it's BYOB. Don't forget drinks for the kids!! Also, we are collecting plastic eggs and candy donations to be used for the Hop-To-The-Beach Selby Easter Celebration. Happy Hour will begin at an earlier time - 5pm.
Sunday, 8 March
The Selby Coffeehouse will be open again from 10am until 5pm. We will have the strategic gaming club for anyone who would like to watch or learn more. The Blue Ribbon Project will be there excepting donations for their Backpacks of Love program. You can go to www.theblueribbon.org to find more information or go to the Selby-On-The-Bay website's social page for a list of items. The Selby Coffeehouse is a quiet event whereas folks can come in, play some games with their kids, read a book or maybe even host a group. This would be a great time for a book club meeting! If anyone is interested in hosting one, then please email me at SelbyBay@gmail.com. This is also a good time for homework or to finish up projects.

The Girls' Night Out (GNO) group is rescheduled for Thursday, 19 March. The agenda is simple - listening to our Selby Band and stuffing eggs for Easter!

NASCAR Sunday - Daytona 500!!
With all the crazy weather, I think we've put our Selby NASCAR Sunday to the side! The beginning of the racing season begins on Sunday with the Daytona 500! We'll be getting together at the community center from 12:30pm to 4:30pm to watch the race. This event is a BYOB and everyone is encouraged to sign-up on our Sign Up Genius to bring a munchie to share! Thanks and see ya there!

Winter Storm Warning
Good morning Selby,
Last night a Winter Storm Warning was issued from 6:00pm Monday, 16 February until noon on Tuesday, 17 February. A Winter Storm Warning is issued when impending weather will be hazardous and heavy. Snow accumulations are forecasted, at this moment, to be around 4-8 inches. Depending upon where the storm tracks, these estimates could be lower or higher.
Thankfully, we do have the time to prepare for this event. Make sure you have the basics and the special. I seriously doubt that it will snow so hard we'll all be housebound for weeks, but when the kiddos come inside from building that snowman, no hot chocolate in the house would be a tragedy. Plan ahead. Make sure snow shovels are close at hand. It's been a while. Do you even know where they are? Start up the generators and make sure they work. Selby is infamous for losing power. Charge up cell phones and computers Monday night. Police stations are open for warming centers just in case you find yourself without power and no place to go.
Bring in those pets!! This has been posted several times in several places. Animals feel cold just as much as we do. If they are not welcome in the house, then make a warm, soft spot in the garage with water and food. They deserve at least that. Check on elderly neighbors. Make sure their heat is on and working. Help them out by shoveling their driveways and deicing their steps.
Speaking of shoveling, do we have any teenagers willing to earn a few dollars shoveling driveways? Do we have any Selby folks willing to pay a few dollars to have their driveways shoveled?
Do your running now and stay off the roads when the snow gets heavy. Clear roads allow for the plows and emergency vehicles to do their jobs safely. Fill up your car with window washer fluid. That's the first thing to go. Kmart has a ton of the stuff! Buy two. They make great gifts! Make sure your gas tank is filled.
Most folks have off today so use the time to prepare so that all that's left is to enjoy the snow!! (If you're not a snow lover, then I am truly sorry. Just keep in mind that we have nice weather the majority of the year, but only a few chances for snow.)

Weekly Update - 9 February
Good evening Selby!
We have some awfully cold weather coming in now through Sunday. Friday through Sunday is supposedly the worst. Please bring in the pets and check on senior neighbors to make sure they have heat.

AACPS - 2 hour early dismissal for staff professional development

Selby Weekend Recap
Friday - We had a great Mardi Gras 1st Friday Happy Hour! A big thank you goes out to the set up and clean up crew and everyone who donated to the potluck!! Another big thank you goes out to Phil Pieraldi who provided music for the evening. Everyone...kids and adults...really enjoyed the music. Selby has got some talent!! Hopefully everyone can make it out next month when we celebrate St. Patrick's Day!
Saturday - Were you able to make the craft fair? What a great show! There were all kinds of crafts from bags to boxes to jewelry. A little something for everyone. Maybe we can get them back in the Fall! Keep an eye out. Ya never know!
Sunday - We experimented with the first Selby Coffeehouse. This wasn't the typical coffeehouse. It was just some time for folks to quietly enjoy the clubhouse. We had a nice group of kids with the strategic gaming group. They do some really cool stuff! We had information about Selby digital media. We also had Taylor Pyles who is spearheading the Blue Ribbon Project and their Backpacks of Love. What a great organization for a worthy cause. Make sure you catch their Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night on 25 February. We'll be doing the coffeehouse next month so if you have a group or would like to set up a table to offer information to the community, then please email SelbyBay@gmail. com. Please, only Selby groups or nonprofit organizations.

Selby Coffeehouse
Selby is going to try out our first Coffeehouse. This may not be like a true "coffeehouse", but more like a chance for folks to just enjoy some quiet time in the community center. Feel free to stop by and play a card game with friends or a board game with family. Put a puzzle together or read a book. Catch up on some scrapbooking or homework! This month we'll be featuring the Strategic Gaming Club. Come down and see what they are all about ! We'll have a table set up for The Blue Ribbon Project. Find out what they are all about and how you can help! Don't forget their spirit night at Chick-Fil-A on 25 February. We'll also have information about Selby digital communication as well as light concessions (candy, soda, hot drinks). If you would like to sponsor a Selby club meeting (book, teens, etc.) or feature some information that would be useful to our community at the next Coffeehouse, then please email SelbyBay@gmai.com.
Selby Craft Show
Selby's first craft show will be on Saturday, 7 February! There is a wide variety of crafts to choose from. Doors open at 9:00am and close at 3:00pm. Remember Valentine's Day is right around the corner and this is a great opportunity to find an original gift!
1st Friday Happy Hour - Mardi Gras
This month, 1st Friday Happy Hour is visiting the Beg Easy!! We're opening doors early for everyone to bring down a traditional New Orleans dish to share. Regular Happy Hour will begin at 7:00pm with the smooth, acoustic sounds of Phil Piebald. I think you're going to enjoy his tunes!! Looking forward to a fun time on a cold evening!! As with all Happy Hours, BYOB!

Weekly Update - 2 February
Good Evening Selby,
First I'd like to thank everyone who was able to attend the Selby Super Bowl Sunday! It was a fantastic time! A big thank you to Dennis Gheen who came up with the idea in the first place. Thank you to the set up crew, the clean up crew and everyone who donated to the munchies. Congrats to Kim Engelmann Bareuther for being our Selby Wing Queen for 2015 and congrats to the folks who won the football pools. I hope everyone can join us in a couple weeks to celebrate the beginning of NASCAR season with the Daytona 500!
For those who haven't heard yet, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today up on Gobbler's Knob which tells us that there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Personally, I hope we get at least one good snow anytime during those 6 weeks. A day off school spent sledding and building snowmen! Speaking of school, AACPS report cards come out tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 February. Sorry kiddos!
